Charity Knitting
We support our local charities throughout the year. We furnish the yarn, and our customers who want to contribute to this cause can drop off their knit goods at our shop.
We host a Bootie Tree in our shop and collect knitted baby booties. Individual knitters come up with great ideas, and as a result no two booties are alike. We donate all of the collected booties to the Pregnancy Crisis Center in Camas Washington and Southwest Memorial Hospital in Vancouver Washington for the new mothers. Last Christmas about one hundred pairs were donated to the hospital. These make great bonus gifts to the hats hospitals receive from volunteer knitters throughout the year. We are collecting booties year around, if you would like to donate please drop by, or if you can't make it to the shop, we hope you will consider mailing it to us for a great cause.
We also sent a large box of yarn to Swaziland to a church organization whose women knit for the AIDS orphans. I happened to have had the privilege of meeting Phumie, Pretty and Gloria on a recent trip this past May. I found them knitting at a local marketplace.
The yarn and needles they were using were of such poor quality that I wanted to help. We collected yarn from our customers and also a donation fund to offset the shipping costs. People are so Generous when the need is great. My husband and I got to visit an orphanage and school so we know first hand how much this means to these people.
These projects are very dear to my heart.
